Standing Committee of Officials of Consumer Affairs — Consultation Regulatory Impact Statement on Best Practice Proposals and Product Safety regime
On 16 November 2009, the Standing Committee of Officials of Consumer Affairs released consultation regulatory impact statements (RIS) on reforms based on best practice in state and territory consumer protection laws, and a new national product safety regime.

Commonwealth Consumer Affairs Advisory Council (CCAAC) Review of Statutory Implied Conditions and Warranties
On 26 July 2009, the Minister for Competition Policy and Consumer Affairs, the Hon Dr Craig Emerson MP, released an issues paper for the CCAAC Review of Statutory Implied Conditions and Warranties.

Senate Standing Committee on Economics Inquiry into the Trade Practices Amendment (Australian Consumer Law) Bill 2009
On 25 June 2009, the Senate referred the Trade Practices Amendment (Australian Consumer Law) Bill 2009 to the Senate Standing Committee on Economics for inquiry.
This consultation closed on 31 July 2009 and the Committee reported on 7 September 2009.

The Australian Consumer Law — Consultation on draft unfair contract terms provisions
On 11 May 2009 , the Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Competition Policy and Consumer Affairs, the Hon Chris Bowen MP, released for public consultation a consultation paper entitled The Australian Consumer Law: Consultation on draft provisions on unfair contract terms.

The Productivity Commission’s review of Australia’s consumer policy framework
The new consumer policy framework agreed to on 2 October 2008 by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) draws on the Productivity Commission’s (PC) 2007‑2008 Review of Australia’s Consumer Policy Framework.
In conducting the review, the PC consulted widely with public and industry stakeholders, and in doing so received many views on the potential for regulation.
