Abstract: |
The Standing Committee of Officials of Consumer Affairs has released a consultation regulation impact statement (RIS) on reforms based on best practice in state and territory consumer protection laws, and a new national product safety regime. These reforms are being considered as part of the development of the Australian Consumer Law. The proposals in this RIS do not reflect Australian Government policy, or the policy of any state or territory Government. The proposals are due to be presented to the Ministerial Council on Consumer Affairs for consideration on 4 December 2009. Making a submissionInterested parties are invited to submit comments in response to the consultation RIS. While submissions may be lodged electronically, by post or by facsimile, electronic lodgment is preferred. For accessibility reasons, please submit responses sent via email in a Word or RTF format. An additional PDF version may also be submitted. All information (including name and address details) contained in submissions will be made available to the public on the Treasury website unless you indicate that you would like all or part of your submission to remain in confidence. Automatically generated confidentiality statements in emails do not suffice for this purpose. Respondents who would like part of their submission to remain in confidence should provide this information marked as such in a separate attachment. A request made under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Commonwealth) for a submission marked 'confidential' to be made available will be determined in accordance with that Act.
