Abstract:

On 13 May 2008 the Australian Government announced the Australia’s Future Tax System Review.

The Review Panel will make recommendations to position Australia to deal with the demographic, social, economic and environmental challenges of the 21st century.

The review is being conducted in several stages. In August 2008 the Treasury released an initial discussion paper and the Review Panel called for public submissions and met with major representative organisations.

The input from through this initial consultation contributed to the development and release of the Panel’s first consultation paper in December 2008 – setting the foundation for further community engagement into 2009.

The Panel will provide a final report to Government in December 2009.
